Fall of Bastille is the most important and famous event that took place during French Revolution. It occurred on 14h July 1789 which is celebrated as French National Festival. The Prison of Bastille represented the unjust royal authority. Hence, the fall of Bastille was a symbol of public unrest against the autocratic and unjust rule.The event was a major turning point of French political and social scenario. Its significance is seen not only in French Republic but also among the colonies of France. The event is commemorated throughout the country as well as the countries having French influence.
France issued a stamp of 0.65 cents value to commemorate the revolutionary event. The stamp depicts the scenario of the Storming of The prison along with the date and a text “Republique Francaise”.
Among the former colonies of France the Ivory Coast has issued a peculiar stamp commemorating 200th Anniversary of the event. The stamp of the value of 200Francs depicts not only the prison but also the detail of Declaration of Rights of Man.
